Important Notice - Mercury lamp disposal

Ultraviolet lamps contain small amounts of Mercury (Hg) that must not be disposed of in landfill or thrown into general industrial waste bins.

Mercury is toxic to the human nervous system and is classified as hazardous waste. Its disposal is governed by the prescribed waste regulations of the Environmental Protection Act 1970 and the Environmental Protection (Prescribed Waste) Regulations 1998. These regulations encourage waste generators and managers to adopt a responsible approach and facilitate improvements in all aspects of waste management, including legitimate diversion of waste to productive purposes such as re-use or recycling.

Customers should be aware of these regulations and develop and implement a mercury waste management programme as part of their OHS policy.

Heraeus Amba Australia offers a mercury lamp disposal service whereby the quartz envelope of the lamp is crushed and the mercury content recycled. A certificate is issued to demonstrate compliance with EPA regulations.

For a nominal fee, we can arrange to have your lamps safely and responsibly disposed of and the mercury content recycled. We accept UV lamps made by other manufacturers as well as original Amba* lamps made by Heraeus. Lamps should be delivered intact, ie. protected from breakage and transported in a responsible manner, to our Melbourne address.
